BENJAMIN SENIOR
BRITISH, B. 1982
AVAILABLE WORKS
The women in Benjamin Senior’s carefully choreographed paintings form rhythmic ensembles as they engage in leisure activities or sports like swimming and hula-hooping. Senior often depicts the human form as a series of abstract shapes, as in the trilogy of figures in Birth of Spring (2013) where stretching bodies bend into triangles and L-shapes. The shapes adopted by these figures are echoed by the graphic patterns which adorn their clothing, as well as the trunks and branches of the trees which constitute the painting’s background. Senior received an MA in painting from the Royal College of Art in 2010 and has since held solo presentations at Art Basel Hong Kong with BolteLang (2013) and at Frieze New York with James Fuentes Gallery (2016). Senior works primarily in egg tempera.
